Our MSc Low Energy Building Services Engineering will give you a holistic understanding of the principles of low energy building and building services design to enable you to contribute to the global transition to a more sustainable built environment.The School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering has an international reputation, close links with industry and UK professional organisations, and has delivered programmes in building services engineering for over 40 years.The School’s international reputation and close links with industry allow us to help you secure a placement that suits your needs and career prospects. Several of our industrial partners, such as Mitsubishi, Cundall, Hilson Moran and Vexo International, also offer work placements for students to undertake their research dissertations.Our staff are heavily involved with UK ASHRAE Midlands Chapter and Dr. Mahroo Eftekhari, Programme Director for MSc Low Energy Building Services Engineering, is the current president. The coursework on this programme is based on the ASHRAE Integrated Sustainable Building Design (ISBD) brief, allowing our students to be entered in the competition. We won the ASHRAE ISBD competition in 2019 and our graduates have also won the CIBSE ASHRAE Graduate of the Year in 2014 and 2017.We have recently invested £6 million in building expansion and development, which includes new dedicated study areas and computer resources. You will benefit from access to our excellent facilities, including our 3,000m2 laboratory and high performance computing cluster – one of the fastest in the UK.This degree counts as part of a CEng qualification and is a fast-track approach for becoming a Chartered Engineer. Graduates from this programme have also been fully sponsored to carry out PhD research by companies such as Tata Steel, Vexo International and Mitsubishi International.This degree will develop your understanding of:human thermal comfort and the need for indoor air quality – the principles of low energy building designthe design of building air conditioning systemthe buildings energy supply systems, including electrical and district energy systemsthe control of low energy buildingsthe theory and use of computer modelling and simulation in predicting building performancethe capture of design knowledge using 3D building information modellingresearch methods and data analysis.
