Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) have a vital role within the contemporary perioperative team, working in this exciting and dynamic environment, ODPs provide care during the anaesthetic, surgical and recovery phases of a patient’s hospital treatment. ODPs require in-depth knowledge and skills in areas such as anatomy and physiology, surgical and anaesthetic procedures, legal and ethical issues, and teamwork. • Study a broad range of subjects including anatomy and physiology, research, legal and ethical issues, introduction to surgery, anaesthetics and post-operative recovery, communication, critical reflection, pharmacology, enhanced roles, leadership and management, and interdisciplinary teamwork.• Prepare for a professional career in Operating department Practice.• Practical experience of perioperative skills and procedures, in context is gained through placements in a variety of settings across North Wales Health Board.• The Operating department Practice programme at WGU is the only programme of its kind in North Wales and is one of only two programmes in all of Wales.*Subject to validation and accreditation
