BSc (Hons) Finance (Including Foundation Year)
Open to UK and EU students only, our BSc Finance (including foundation year) is suitable for you if your academic qualifications do not yet meet our entrance requirements for an undergraduate course. This four-year course includes a foundation year (Year Zero), followed by a further three years of undergraduate study. Our compulsory English language and academic skills module supplements your academic subjects. Understanding the financial drivers of business underpins leadership, strategy and planning, and governance and ethics are essential for a fast-paced career. Studying finance at Essex provides you with a thorough grounding in the key issues relevant to today’s global financial institutions and markets, and the skills to evaluate them. You learn about the global financial system from the viewpoint of the investor, the analyst, the academic and the policy-maker. Taught by financial experts with both academic and private sector experience, your introductory modules examine how investors should construct a portfolio of assets, how firms decide to fund their operations, how assets should be priced and whether financial markets work well. As your course progresses, you examine finance in its international context, learn how statistics can be used to make financial decisions and explore the controversial world of derivative markets.
