BSc Economics and Mathematics (Dual Degree)

The BSc Economics and Mathematics is a dual honours degree combining advanced mathematical and technical skills with the opportunity to apply these to real-world economic policy.In your first year you will focus primarily on the mathematics modules, whilst gaining a foundational knowledge of microeconomic and macroeconomic analysis and their roles in economic policy making. In the second and third year, you will be able to choose from a wide variety of modules from both subjects and balance the split between the two subjects evenly.These two subjects complement each other very well; you’ll develop the analytical skills essential for economists to make sound judgements and mathematics adds another dimension to your experience, making you a highly effective thinker and problem-solver.We offer you the chance to do a year-long work placement, starting after your second year. This is a great opportunity to get paid work experience with some of the UK’s top employers who want to recruit the best students from Sheffield.Recent placements have been with Bank of England, Lloyds Bank, IBM, ASOS and Mercedes-Benz.
