BEng (Hons) Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering
The course teaches you how to design, analyse and test robots, autonomous vehicles and other systems. You also learn how to control robotic systems with microprocessor technology. So there’s a strong practical focus from the outset. You will learn lab skills and work on projects. And you’ll take part in the faculty’s Global Engineering Challenge, a team exercise designed to make you a better engineer.Sheffield is the only university in the UK with a whole department dedicated to control and systems engineering. Rolls-Royce have opened a technology centre here. And we have research contracts with major organisations such as the European Space Agency. Our facilities include a robotics lab and a new (2015) control and electronics lab.Systems and control engineers can build robots and design manufacturing processes. They can even help to predict climate change and financial trends. So graduates are in demand. Ours work for companies including Rolls-Royce, Jaguar Land Rover, Shell and HSBC. The BEng is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Measurement and Control. At the end of the second year, you may choose to switch to the MEng course, which includes an advanced research project and meets all the academic requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
