Open to all students, our BEng Communications Engineering (including foundation year) is suitable for you if your academic qualifications do not yet meet our entrance requirements for an undergraduate course. This four-year course includes a foundation year (Year Zero), followed by a further three years of undergraduate study. Our compulsory English language and academic skills module supplements your academic subjects. Electronics is essential to the modern world of instant global communication. BEng Communications Engineering at Essex is lead by expert research staff, who have contributed to some major breakthroughs in recent years. Our specialist facilities are used for research into areas including non-invasive brain-computer interfaces, intelligent environments, robotics, optoelectronics, video, RF and MW, printed circuit milling, and semiconductors. Our students are extremely happy – we achieved 92% student satisfaction (NSS 2017).This degree is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). This accreditation is increasingly sought by employers, and provides the first stage towards eventual professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
