You’ll investigate how English has developed over time and how it’s used to mark social, regional and stylistic distinctions.You will learn from subject experts, world-leading researchers in literary and linguistic studies and internationally acclaimed writers throughout your degree.You’ll be able to immerse yourself in local culture at venues such as Seven Stories, The Wordsworth Trust and the Literary and Philosophical Society, while your degree study examines:how English is acquired and develops in the mindthe grammatical structure of English and general phonetics/phonologysocial and historical context of variation in Englishmethodologies for studying the human language facultyTeaching methodsYou can normally expect to spend around 10 hours per week attending lectures, seminars, workshops and film screenings.
